Anglesey (Ynys Môn) surf guide

Anglesey (Ynys Môn) isn't exactly famous for its surf, but it's a long stretch of sandy beach that offers some opportunities, mainly for kitesurfers and windsurfers. There are those rare days when a SouthWest swell sneaks in between Ireland and the Llyn Peninsula, providing some fun waves. More often than not, you’ll find onshore windswell here, so it’s not a go-to spot for serious surfers. Some better banks can form near the stream, so keep an eye out.

This beach can handle swell sizes from about 2ft to 4ft (roughly 0.6m to 1.2m), with the waves breaking both right and left over sand. It's best to surf here when the wind is coming from the NorthEast, and it works through a range of tide heights, especially around low to mid tides. The spot is suitable for beginners and intermediates, making it an accessible choice when conditions are right. You can ride funboards, fish, longboards, and even kiteboards here, though most sessions will be on the smaller side.

Parking can be a bit of a hassle, with only a couple of small car parks set slightly back from the beach. You’ll find that it’s pretty quiet here, giving you a relaxed vibe to enjoy while you wait for the waves. Just be mindful of rips and currents if it gets big out there. In general, surf here is mostly solid in the winter months, from December to February, so keep that in mind when planning your surf trip.
