Angourie surf guide

Angourie is a well-known surf spot located in New South Wales, Australia. It's famous for its point break that attracts surfers from all over. This wave can be quite a handful and is often crowded with locals and regulars who know the spot inside out. The scenery is pretty good, with beautiful beaches and a relaxed vibe, but don't expect solitude here—you'll find plenty of fellow surfers sharing the waves.

This spot generally works best with an east swell, but it can handle north-east and south-east swells too. Angourie features a right-hand point break that starts off over a rocky ledge, which can make getting in a bit tricky. The waves can reach up to about 3 feet (1 meter) and pack some punch, so this spot is better suited for expert surfers. It’s known to handle some serious size, even up to triple overhead, especially when the swell is big. The best tides are low and mid, but it can also work during high tide if the conditions are right. You’ll want a south-west wind for optimal performance. Just keep in mind that the paddle out can be a workout, especially if you’re new to the area.

While Angourie is mainly known for its powerful right-hand waves, don’t forget to check out the backbeach. In a northerly wind, it can offer some fun peaks and even a left off the point. If you're not keen on jumping off the rocks, paddling out from the beach is usually a better option for those less experienced with the local conditions.
