Blackbeard Island surf guide

Surf: General: Located approximately 18 miles from Shellman's Bluff, Georgia, Blackbeard Island is another wildlife refuge. Camping and fires are prohibited, but you're allowed to legally hike or bike its interior. Blackbeard is accessible from the north end of Sapelo Island, which also must be reached by boat, at the primitive Cabretta campground. Tides: mid to high Size: knee-head high Wind: W, NW Swell: NE, E, SE Bottom: Sand Paddling: Hard NE and SW winds can produce strong currents, but generally pretty mellow. Spot Rating: Can offer a fun little wave on its day, but overall not a surf destination. Access: Boat or kayak. Only access is by water. Crowds: Crowd Factor: None Local Vibe: None. Environment: Pretty clean, although typically cloudy Hazards: Strong currents and miscellaneous sea creatures. No one around to help you if you injure yourself so take precaution. Season: Late summer, early fall, early spring
