Boca Chica surf guide
Surf: General: There are jetties at Boca Chica State Park that protect the Brazos Santiago Pass. The Boca Chica side, across from South Padre Island, is accessible by paddling across the pass, by boat, or by driving from Brownsville to the south. Can work on E swells, but is better on the strong N and NE swells that push across the pass and hit the outer bars, producing hollow, punchy peaks. This area really turns on during hurricane swells that push up through the center of the Gulf of Mexico and make landfall in the Louisiana/Mississippi region. On the strongest hurricane events, even tow surfing becomes a viable option.
