Cardoso surf guide

Cardoso Beach, located near Tubarão and Laguna, is part of the Santa Marta region and offers easy access via a terrain road to the scenic Santa Marta Cape. This area features several beaches, making it a popular spot for surfers looking to catch some waves. The beach is known for its generally mellow vibe, and it can accommodate a variety of swell and wind conditions.

The surf here can be pretty consistent, with conditions suitable for different skill levels. Cardoso can handle swells from 1.5 meters up to 6 meters, with both left and right breaks available. The bottom is primarily sand, which supports good sandbars and allows for long rides when the conditions are right. It works best on medium tides, especially during low to mid and mid to high. The best wind is typically from the west-northwest to northwest. With a long paddle required to reach the breaks, expect chest-high to overhead waves depending on the swell.

Just north of Cardoso, you’ll find Prainha do Farol, which works well on north or east swells, and further along are Galheta, Ipoa, and Santa Marta beaches. To the south, you have Cigana, Camacho, and Jaguaruna beaches. If you’re exploring all these spots, a 4x4 would be handy. Also, keep in mind that between May and June, surfing may be off-limits due to traditional fishing practices in the area.
