Challaborough surf guide

Challaborough is a surf spot located in a picturesque bay that attracts both locals and visitors. It's known for its scenic environment and offers a bit of a different vibe compared to nearby spots like Bantham, picking up slightly less swell. The area is complemented by a small car park behind the beach, making access easy, but don't expect a massive influx of parking space.

The surf here features a decent low tide right-hand point at the north end of the bay that breaks off the rocks into deeper water. There's also a left breaking off the cliffs. Through the tide, you can find some fun peaks, but be cautious as it gets rippy when the swell comes in. The optimal swell direction is from the SouthWest, and the spot handles swell sizes from 2ft (0.6m) to 8ft (2.4m). Wind from the North is preferred, and the break works well across low, mid, and high tides. Whether you're riding a shortboard, fish, funboard, longboard, or bodyboard, there’s variety here for intermediate to expert surfers. Just keep in mind that it can get crowded when it’s on.

The bottom consists of a mix of sand and rocks, so watch out for the hazards while paddling. When it's smaller, paddling is easy, but things can get a bit tricky when the swell is bigger. The local vibe remains chilled, making it a decent spot to enjoy some surf time in autumn and winter, from October to February.
