Crab Island in Gower is a surf spot that attracts serious surfers looking for a challenge. This place tends to get busy, especially with local surfers who know the break well. You can park at Langland, which is your best bet for access, but be prepared for a crowd when you arrive.
The waves here are known to be fast and hollow, breaking primarily to the right over an uneven reef. When the swell is from the south-west (and sometimes west), you can expect decent surf, especially when the swell is around 2ft (0.6m). The surf is best at low tide and with a north wind. It’s important to note that this spot is for experts only, as the current can be tough, making drops tricky and getting caught inside pretty punishing.
There’s also a quick left that breaks on the opposite side, but keep an eye out for rips that can pull you towards the rocks. If you’re not experienced, this spot may not be for you, since only the best surfers tend to catch waves here consistently.
