Langland Bay is a well-known surf spot in South Wales, attracting surfers of various skill levels throughout the year. It features a mix of beach breaks, reefs, and a point, offering something depending on the surf conditions and tides. The beach can get quite busy, especially during the summer months, when local surfers and visitors flock to the area, making for a lively atmosphere. With beachfront parking available, it’s easily accessible, though you’ll need to pay for parking. The surrounding environment is decent, but there are some rips and rocks to watch out for.
The surf here is versatile, breaking off various points and reefs, but it’s best when the swell comes from the Southwest (SW). You can expect wave heights from around 1 meter (3 ft) to 2.5 meters (8 ft). At high tide, The Shorey is a popular choice, while Rotherslade lefts and The Reef can start to work as the tide drops. When it’s low tide, spots like the Middle of the Bay, the Sandbar, and Shit Pipe become crowded options. The wave direction alternates between left and right, with some fun beach breaks and several walling rights, making it a suitable place for various board types, including shortboards, fish, funboards, longboards, bodyboards, and even SUPs.
While most of the spots work throughout the year, the best time to surf is between September and February. It’s important to note that the local vibe can be competitive, so respect is appreciated. Rips and rocks create hazards, so be mindful while paddling out, especially when it's big. The conditions can vary a lot, so keeping an eye on the tides is crucial for finding the best peaks in clean swells.
