Dumbea Left is a popular surf spot located in New Caledonia, known for its left-hand reef breaks. This spot stretches almost 2km across the channel and can get pretty busy with surfers looking to catch some waves. The vibe here is laid-back, but don’t be surprised if you see a decent crowd during good swells. It’s a great place for those who enjoy varied surf conditions, as there’s often something going on in the lineup.

This wave works best with swells coming from the SouthWest, but you can also catch it when the swell comes from the SouthEast or West. It handles swell sizes well, especially at around 3ft (about 1 meter). Generally, you’ll find fun, surfable waves up to head high, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. The reef provides some nice, slashable walls and ramps, while low to mid and high tide can offer enjoyable rides. When the swell starts pushing above 6-8ft (around 2-2.5 meters), things can get intense with some solid tube action and close-out sections appearing, especially nearer the coral on the inside. The preferred wind direction is east, which keeps the surf nice and clean.
