El Colegio is a surf spot located near the school’s stadium. It’s known for its user-friendly waves, especially when conditions are right. The spot provides better access compared to some of the more challenging breaks further north, making it a decent option for surfers looking to improve their skills. To the south, you can find smaller, more sheltered waves near the rivermouth, catering to those looking for something a bit easier.
This spot really shines with a SouthWest swell direction, handling sizes up to about 3 feet (0.9 meters) well. The reef break offers both left and right waves, which keeps things interesting. The best time to surf here is during low to mid to high tides, especially when the wind is coming from the east. If you're an intermediate surfer, this spot is a good place to practice and have a good time without too much hassle.
If you’re up for a little adventure, just beyond the harbor lies Big Sister, a more intense big wave slab where you can catch some heavy A-frames in solid swell. Just keep in mind that it’s for more experienced surfers, so make sure you’re ready for the challenge if you decide to check it out.
