El Puerto surf guide

El Puerto is a long left pointbreak located in the fishing complex, and it's pretty much the best wave the city has to offer. The waves peel smoothly into the bay from the point to the base of the pier. While it’s not world-class, it's the top choice around here if you're looking to catch a decent wave. Access is easy, especially if you’re staying at Maci, as it's right by the house.

For surfing, this spot is best during low tide with slightly overhead waves (1.2 to 1.8 meters). The ideal swell directions are WestSouthWest, West, WestNorthWest, NorthWest, NorthNorthWest, and North, handling swell sizes from 1.2 to 2 meters. The wind usually comes from the East or South, which is preferable. The waves break over sand and rocks, and the long rides mean you'll need some energy to paddle back up after a session. It's a nice wave for intermediate to expert surfers, so if you're looking to improve your skills, this spot is a fine choice. Both shortboards and funboards work well here.

Crowds can be a non-issue since it rarely gets congested; there's just one contest a year where you might find more people in the water. Locally, the vibe is cool, but watch your gear while you’re out. The environment around the spot can be decent, though it might get a bit messy after some rain.
