Elba Island - Laconella surf guide

Elba Island - Laconella is an appealing surf spot located on the south coast of Elba Island, which is reachable via a one-hour ferry ride from Piombino. After arriving in Porto Ferraio, head south to Lacona. The surf here offers a mix of rock and sand bottoms, giving surfers a chance to catch some nice right-hand waves. While it can be a fun surf destination, it’s worth noting that conditions can be inconsistent and it may not be as crowded as other popular spots.

This spot works best with southeast and southwest swells and can handle swell sizes starting from 2ft (about 0.6 meters). The waves break over a combination of rock ledges and sand, with the best wave types showing up as reefs. For optimal conditions, the ideal wind direction is northwest, and it works well at low, mid, and high tide. Intermediate surfers will find this spot suitable as it can deliver some occasional barrels when the conditions align right.

To find the spot, simply turn right before the Laconella camping area. It’s located about 700 meters west from the campground, making it an easy trek. Just keep in mind that the waves can be hit or miss, so it might take some patience to find the right session.
