Factory Point surf guide

Factory Point is located north of Swakopmund along the rugged Namibian coastline. This spot is part of a more remote surf area that includes the famed Skeleton Coast and the nearby seal reserve at Cape Cross. The scenery is wild and untouched, but you might have to weigh your options here since it’s not renowned for having the best waves compared to its neighbors.

The surf at Factory Point typically works best with a southwest swell and can handle sizes around 2ft (0.6m). You’ll find left waves breaking over an uneven reef, which can be fun but is not as consistent or significant as the main breaks further up the point. The winds from the east are what you want to look for, and the best time to catch some waves is during mid to high tide. Just keep in mind that since it's right in front of a slaughterhouse, the vibe might not be the most pleasant.

Interestingly, this area used to be off-limits to surfers due to strict enforcement by a local who was known for his aggressive approach. Nowadays, there’s a fee to surf here, so ensure you pay the $1.50 per person and for your car. The nearest camping spot is about 40km (25mi) south, and it's pretty basic, so plan accordingly if you decide to stay overnight.
