Ginsu surf guide

Ginsu is a well-known surf spot located on the north coast of Haiti. It's named after a famous American cutlery brand by the original local surfers, the Berhmann brothers, Russell and Vadim. It's known for having energy and consistency, making it a popular choice for those in the area. The wave can get fast and is generally ripable, attracting expert surfers looking for a challenge. While it's not as popular as some spots on the south coast, Ginsu still has its unique appeal.

The best conditions for Ginsu come with a northeast swell, particularly from the north and east. The spot can handle swell sizes starting from about 1ft (0.3m) and mostly produces right-hand reef breaks. If you’re planning to surf, mid to high tide is preferable for the best experience. Once you clear the shallow dry reef at low tide, you can find some decent tubes that offer a short but intense ride. Just keep an eye out for the “chopping board rock” in the inside section. Morning and evening sessions can be great, especially when the wind is blowing from the south.

Accessing Ginsu is relatively easy. You can park on the dirt roadside next to the break or take a short walk from the nearby Cormier Plage. For a better experience, consider staying in Cormier Plage, where you can enjoy a relaxed vibe in a small fishing village setting. While you’re in the area, exploring the nearby Bonnet mountains and taking day trips to Cap Haitien and the Citadel can add to your visit.
