Good Rats is a surf spot that’s pretty remote, located far from the usual crowds. It’s a bit of a trek to get there, which means you may have the waves mostly to yourself. This spot is not for those who want convenience or easy access, but if you’re willing to make the journey, you might find it rewarding.
The waves here are mainly right-handers, breaking over uneven reef. It works best with a west swell, but it can handle swell coming from the southwest too. You’ll want to get in the water when the swell is around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters), and it’s best on mid tides. For ideal conditions, look for east winds to help clean up the surf. This spot is more suited for intermediate surfers, so if you're still getting the hang of it, you might want to choose a different location.
Remember, Good Rats isn’t the easiest place to surf, but if you’re up for a bit of an adventure and the conditions are right, you might just enjoy your session out there. Make sure to check the forecast and be prepared for the elements before heading out.
