Gouaro surf guide

Gouaro is a surf spot located directly across from the Baie des Tortues. It's known for its decent waves and is an appealing place for surfers looking for some action. Just keep in mind that it's best not to paddle the 2 km to the fringe of coral, especially with the rivermouth nearby which tends to attract sharks. The overall vibe is laid-back, and while it might get a bit busy on weekends with locals joining surfers from the Nekweta Surf Camp, it's still a spot worth checking out.

At Gouaro, you'll find a fun right wave that works well with swells from the SouthEast and West, handling sizes around 3 ft (about 0.9 meters). The main wave breaks over live coral, so be cautious out there. It tends to be more suitable for intermediate surfers. The ideal conditions are when the wind is coming from the NorthWest and during mid to high tide. If you’re looking for a change, there’s also a left and another right option inside the Bourail Pass that can handle bigger swells, giving you a bit more variety.

When surfing Gouaro, it’s useful to remember that the crowd can vary, especially on weekends. The local surfers usually know the area well, so a friendly wave to them can go a long way. Make sure to respect the spot and the locals to keep the experience enjoyable for everyone!
