More about Harbour Entrance surfspot

For mariners, it’s one of the most dangerous harbor entrances in the world, nicknamed “Jaws.” For experienced surfers, it’s a crowded albeit intense, thick, and shallow sandbar peak on the north end of the entrance. Pipeline-style lefts and steep, dredging rights à la Backdoor when epic. Surf it an hour before and up to an hour after low tide only or else get sucked out to sea or into the bay, depending on which way the tide’s headed. Access is by leaping off or scratching back onto the craggy North Jetty rocks. If you surf it on an incoming tide, you’ll continually get sucked toward the bay and into the impact zone of every set.

The heaviest wave around when it’s on; don’t even think about giving it a go unless you’ve had solid experience in serious surf. Guys have been trying tow-ins here lately.
