More about Hickory Bay surfspot

Hickory Bay is the most consistent beachbreak since in faces SE and picks up swell from 180º window. Good lefts wedge up in the north corner near the cliffs, with heavy, hollow walls and punishing paddle-outs when it is overhead, a common theme on the peninsula.

From Christchurch head toward Akaroa on State Highway 75. When you get to the Takamatua Road hill turn left and head up Long Bay Road to the Summit Road. When you get to that intersection, you need to take the second left onto the gravel road called Hickory Bay Road. Take it easy down here, its shingle, narrow, windy and bumpy. When you get to the bottom there is a carpark and then follow the signs through the farm track. Dont go through the farmers driveway! its a 10-15min walk to the bottom. Be sure to take whatever you take in out. No camping, fires or Toilet, so be prepared.

Bumpy track to car park then 10min walk through farm gates to beach. No facilities.Try nearby Goughs Bay for smaller empty conditions.
