Hillsboro Inlet is located in South Florida and has some sandy beaches along with a few coral formations. It's often compared to Reef Road, but the surf here doesn't quite live up to that reputation. While you won't find a lot of surfers making a trip just for this spot, it serves as an okay option when other places are crowded or conditions are right.
The surf at Hillsboro Inlet can handle swells from the North Northeast and Southeast, usually ranging from 5ft to 10ft (about 1.5 to 3 meters). It's primarily a point break on the south side of the inlet, and it does get hollow, but you really need a bigger swell to make it worth your while. When the conditions align, you can expect both beach and reef breaks, with waves breaking left. For the best experience, a low or low-mid tide is preferred, and the wind is best from the south-southwest to northwest directions. This spot is suitable for intermediate and expert surfers, so if you're still learning, you may want to choose a different location.
Parking can be tricky, typical for South Florida, so be prepared to search a bit. The crowd factor is pretty standard for the area, and you won't find many locals claiming this spot. Since it's not the go-to surf destination, you might find some breathing room, especially during the fall through spring seasons when swells are more consistent. Just keep an eye out for currents and the occasional man-o'-war or sea lice. Make sure to bring a shortboard or funboard if you decide to give it a shot!
