Hocus Pocus is a surf spot that works best with a southeast swell. It’s located on a shallow reef made up of live coral. The waves here can pack a punch, providing fast, hollow sections that are only suitable for more experienced surfers. This spot isn’t the most consistent compared to other nearby reef passes, but it can still deliver a fun session when conditions align.
The optimal swell direction for Hocus Pocus is southeast, with acceptable swells coming in from the east and southeast. The best swell sizes are around 3 feet (about 1 meter), which makes for a manageable ride for those who know what they’re doing. The waves break right and are banked off a reef, so higher tides can give surfers a bit more room for error. If the wind is coming from the northwest, that’s ideal, and the spot can handle any west wind, including southwest.
This spot is definitely for expert surfers only. If you're still getting your feet under you when it comes to surfing, you might want to find a different place. Conditions here can get tricky, and being able to read the waves is important. So, if you’re up for a challenge and have the skills, Hocus Pocus might just be the spot for you when the swell is right.
