Holmes Beach Pier surf guide

Holmes Beach Pier is located on Anna Maria Island and serves as a popular surf spot for both locals and visitors. Itโ€™s an easy drive from Bradenton, making it a convenient choice for a quick surf session. The area sees less traffic compared to other spots, so you'll find a more laid-back vibe here. When entering Holmes Beach Pier, you can park right by the pier, which makes access pretty hassle-free. Just keep in mind that while the crowds are generally light, the local vibe remains friendly.

The surf at Holmes Beach Pier can range from waist-high (around 1 meter) to overhead (up to 2 meters) depending on the swell. It works best on southwest and northwest swells, with a sweet spot on hurricane swells. The waves here can be fun, breaking over sandy bottoms, and itโ€™s an okay place for all skill levels โ€“ whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or expert. Paddling is usually easy but can get a bit tougher when the windswell kicks in. The preferred wind directions for cleaner conditions are from the north and northeast, while low tides are most favorable for surfing.

Itโ€™s a spot that can handle swells from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) to 6 feet (1.8 meters), making it suitable for various board types, including shortboards, funboards, longboards, and even skimming. Autumn and winter are the prime seasons to hit this spot, but spring can also offer decent sessions. Just keep an eye out for the pilings, and enjoy your time at the pier!
