Overview
Joeys is a left-hand reef break that peels over live coral. It is a demanding wave suited to expert surfers who are comfortable over sharp, shallow reef.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south to southwest, and a southwest swell lines it up best. It works across a wide range of sizes, holding anything from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 6.1 m / 20 ft, so it stays rideable from small days right up to serious size. Consistency is moderate, so you will catch it working on a fair number of swells rather than every session.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to clean up the face. The reef breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
