Surf: In front of the rivermouth on Kakanui Beach is a walling right point. Peaks at the actual rivermouth and up to the north end rocks. Average walls that occasionally get good. Directions: From Oamaru head south on State Highway 1. At Maheno Turn left onto Fortification Road, at the end of the road turn right onto Beach Road. Continue striaght ahead and the road will change to High Street, then into Cobblestone Road, which will take you right down to the beach. You can also drive round to the south side of the river on Harbour Terrace to surf the right hander. Environment: Some local crew on the good days but generally uncrowded.
