More about Kings Beach surfspot

South of town, Kings Beach often looks messy and crappy, but transforms to hollow, pitching peaks when NE’ers hit. The groyne at the southern end sits on a rock shelf and entertains thick, cylindrical lefts in most NE-SE swells and is fully protected from any N wind. A bit further south at Happy's, the sandbars that flank the Pumicestone Passage can output long, full lefts.

Urchins, barnacles and cunjevoi encrust the reef at KB Groyne and it can suck dry, so avoid low and know your limitations. The beach gets packed when the north side breaks are onshore, but it is an inconsistent spot when it comes to quality days. Sharks are often spotted cruising the inlet waters.
