Lakey Pipe is a well-known surf spot located just 400 meters south of another popular area. It features a gnarly reef setup that offers some exciting waves for experienced surfers. The vibe around here is laid-back, making it a great place to hang out when you're not in the water.
This spot works best with a swell coming from the South or SouthWest. It can handle swell sizes starting from 3 feet (about 1 meter) and can go up to triple overhead when the conditions are right. The waves break over dead coral, creating powerful sections, especially when the swell is sizeable. Lakey Pipe typically throws out some solid left barrels after a relatively easy takeoff. The optimal wind direction is from the SouthEast, and it’s best to surf during mid to high tide for the ultimate experience. It's definitely a spot for expert surfers, as the waves can get pretty intense.
Keep an eye on the conditions, as this spot can change rapidly depending on the swell and tide. The backdoor barrels here are famous, and they do leave enough room to drive a small car through. If you’re looking for a challenging yet rewarding surf session, Lakey Pipe is worth checking out.
