Overview
Lakey Pipe is a gnarly left-hand reef breaking over dead coral, sitting about 400 meters south of its neighbor. The take-off is fairly sedate, but once the wave hits the shelf it throws out a solid backdoor barrel with enough room to drive a small car through.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through southwest, with southwest (SW) the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and while it's at its best around double overhead, the Pipe can handle anything from tiny to triple overhead.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. It's best on mid to high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. Between the shallow dead-coral reef and the heavy barrel, it's a break for surfers who are fully confident taking on serious conditions.
