Langosta surf guide
Surf: South of town, Langosta rivermouth holds some lefts and rights over scattered rocks that tend to appear at lower tides. The beachbreak to the south of the river can hold some thumping barrels on occasion without huge numbers.
Environment: Rivermouth can bring some polluted run-off and sewage.
Surf: General: While there are a bunch of fun waves just south out of Tamarindo, Playa Langosta is usually one of the better bets. Located about a mile south of downtown Tamarindo, Langosta is a stretch of consistent beachbreak highlighted by a wide rivermouth that can be really fun all year long when Southern Hemi is in the water. The main peak off the rivermouth can get crowded, but it's generally not as intense as spots in Tamarindo or at Playa Grande. The wave itself is steep and shifty; great for rebounds and big carves.
Tides: Mid to low.
Size: Head high to double overhead
Wind: East, North-East
Swell: SW, W
Bottom: Sand, rocks.
Paddling: Medium.
Spot Rating: Fun.
Access: Tiny public lot with 10 spots about 200 meters from the break. Condos and the private, all-inclusive Barcelo resort block other access. Best to take a taxi if you're not staying in Langosta.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Lots of talented locals and pushy expats. In general, crowded.
Local Vibe: Can be kind of intense when the swell is good.
Environment: Fair
Hazards: Shallow rocks in some parts.
Season: Fun year round, but biggest March-September.
