Le Moule, located on Grande Terre, is one of the main spots for surfers in the area. It faces northeast, which gives it solid exposure to swell, making it a pretty consistent wave location. The surf scene here has a bit of a local vibe, so you might want to be aware of that when you hit the water.
The waves at Le Moule can handle sizes starting from around 2ft (0.6m) and can go up to waist-high or even head-high. You’ll find onshore lefts with a nice take-off and vertical walls right in front of the car park. If you’re looking for some quick rights, there are ultra-fast options off the peak too. The spot works best with a northeast swell and can also pick up waves from the north and southeast. The reef break can be a bit uneven at times, and it’s good for intermediate surfers to know that the preferable wind direction is south, and it works well at any tide level—low, mid, or high.
Just a heads-up, this spot isn’t really for beginners. The entry off the jetty can get tricky when the waves are bigger, and you should keep an eye out for rocks and urchins. If you're planning to surf here, it's good to be aware of the local pecking order as well. Overall, Le Moule has a lot to offer for those who are comfortable in the water.
