Lookout Beach surf guide

Lookout Beach is a pretty standard beachbreak located right in the middle of town, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The vibe is relaxed, and it’s easy to access, but don't expect anything too epic. The sandbars can be a bit shifty, particularly near the rivermouth, which can affect the consistency of the waves. While it can have its off days, you might catch a decent session when the conditions line up just right.

The surf here works best with the optimal swell direction coming from the South, but it can also pick up swells from the East and Southwest. It handles swell sizes starting from 1ft (about 0.3 meters), with both left and right breaking waves over the sand. Lookout Beach is generally suited for beginners, so if you're just starting out, you’ll find that it’s a forgiving place to practice. The preferable wind direction is from the West, and you can surf during low, mid, or high tide, which gives you a good range to plan your session.

Since it’s in the middle of town, Lookout Beach often attracts plenty of surfers, especially on nice days. It's not the most consistent spot due to all the shut-downs and dross, but if you're patient and the conditions are right, there can be some fun waves waiting for you.
