Los Caños surf guide

Los Caños is a surf spot located within a beautiful bay known for its consistent waves and relaxed beach vibe. It's a popular choice among surfers looking for a more laid-back environment. With its picturesque coastline and the charm of old 60s-style holiday apartments nearby, it's an inviting place to catch some waves. However, don't expect it to be deserted; it can get pretty crowded, especially when the surf is on.

The left-hander here works best with solid swells coming from the west, but it also picks up southwest and northwest swells. It can handle swell sizes starting from around 3 feet (about 1 meter) and often delivers steep, barreling take-offs that lead into long and playful walls. The take-off zone can be quite tight, so you'll need to work on your positioning. Just a heads up, big swells might close out the bay, making it tricky to find the right spot, but there are definitely other waves around the bay to keep you entertained. The best time to surf is during low to mid tides, and northeast winds are preferable.

While surfing at Los Caños, keep in mind that the peak can get a bit crowded, and some vibes might be present. Watch out for urchins and submerged rocks when taking a dip, as they can be lurking beneath the surface. The area from the lighthouse of Trafalgar to the edge of the natural park features a variety of waves, so exploring can lead you to some hidden gems. Just remember to be respectful out there and enjoy the sessions!
