Manzanillo - Colima surf guide

Manzanillo, located in the state of Colima, is known for its big bay and is a popular spot for surfers of all levels. Many surfers start their journey here, especially around Playa Miramar, which is perfect for beginners. For the more experienced crowd, areas like Olas Altas offer some challenging waves. One noteworthy spot is La Boquita, a protected right point that comes alive on big days.

The surf at Manzanillo can handle swells from various directions, but it’s best with swells coming from the West. You can catch waves that are anywhere from 1 ft (0.3 m) and up, with breaks occurring over sand. The wave types here are primarily beach breaks, offering both left and right wave directions. For optimal conditions, the wind should be coming from the NorthEast, and you can enjoy surfing at low, mid, or high tide.

Local surfers here are quite active, and while many travelers move south, Manzanillo has plenty of spots that are worth checking out if you're keen to surf. It's a place where you can get in some good practice, especially if you’re still new to the sport.
