Miramar is a small surf spot located just south of Hammonds in Montecito. It features a mix of boulders and sandy areas, making it somewhat unique compared to other local breaks. While this spot is often thought of as a beginner’s wave, it has its moments, especially during certain swell conditions. The area can get busy, so be prepared to share the lineup with other surfers.
This wave works best with southern or western swells, handling sizes around 1ft (0.3 meters) to a bit bigger. The waves tend to be gentle and well-shaped, especially when they break over the boulders. It breaks to the right, so be ready to paddle that way. The best surf is usually found at lower tides, but it can also produce decent waves during mid and high tides. If the wind comes from the northeast, you’ll find the conditions are even more favorable.
Parking is pretty limited at the foot of Eucalyptus Lane, so plan to arrive early if you want to snag a spot. While it’s not the most epic surf spot, Miramar can be a fun place for longboarders and those just starting out to enjoy the waves.
