Nantasket Beach surf guide

Nantasket Beach is located on a peninsula that forms the southern arm of Boston Harbor. It's a long sandy beach that features multiple beachbreak peaks. The area is somewhat sheltered from many surf conditions, but a NorthEast swell can sneak in occasionally. This spot tends to have a mellow vibe, and the crowds are usually sparse, making it a chill place to catch some waves.

The surf here is pretty manageable, handling swell sizes from around 3ft to 6ft (about 1 to 2 meters). The beach breaks over sand, producing both left and right waves, which can cater to a range of surfers from beginners to experts. The best conditions usually come with a NorthEast swell and West winds. Tides can be low, mid, or high, but you'll want to avoid dead high tide since it doesn’t help the conditions much. Optimum waves happen about four hours before high tide, where you can find fast, hollow rides that gradually turn into slower, mushier waves as you get closer to shore.

Accessing Nantasket Beach is easy with metered parking available. The surf is most consistent from autumn through winter, so make sure to be prepared with the right gear, especially in the colder months when water temps drop. Whether you're riding a funboard, longboard, or a fish, you might just find a variety pack of wave experiences waiting for you.
