Okanda is about an hour's ride by tuk-tuk from A-Bay. This spot is known for its sucky outside sandbar that sits just below a whale-shaped rock. Once you get in, you'll find some super-fun walls inside the cove that always benefit from offshore winds, creating a good vibe for surfing.
The waves here are best with a southeast swell direction, but you can get good rides even with swells coming from the north or south. It can handle swell sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and typically breaks over sand. You'll find mainly right-hand point waves, which can be mellow or punchy depending on the conditions. For the best experience, aim for low to mid or high tide and enjoy the offshore conditions provided by southwest winds.
This spot is decent for keen intermediates who are okay with a bit of travel time. It’s not the most consistent spot around, but when it works, it can be quite fun! Just be prepared and check the conditions before heading out.
