Pelada surf guide

Pelada is a surf spot located in a series of small bays that offers some protection from the wind and swell, especially from the south. It's a decent spot for surfers looking to enjoy a day on the water, but don't expect it to be top-tier. The vibe here is pretty laid-back, and it can get crowded when the conditions are right.

The surf scene at Pelada is a mix of lefts and rights. The left at the south end is slow and shouldering, making it suitable for improvers who want to practice their skills. But the real draw for more experienced surfers is the right-hand wave off the middle reef. This wave comes alive with a northwest swell and a pushing tide, leading to some fun rip and race walls. It works best with a swell size around 3 feet (0.9 meters) and is definitely more appealing during mid to high tide.

If you're heading out, keep in mind that the optimal swell direction is northwest, though you'll also see some action with south swells. The spot features both reef and sand breaks, but watch for the uneven reef as you ride the rip out close to the rocks.
