Pulau Dana is a small island located more than 160 kilometers west of Rote. It’s a pretty remote spot, giving off an isolated vibe. The only locals you’re likely to see are turtles swimming around. The area is not densely populated, making it a quiet place to surf and chill.
The surf here features a long, barrelling left point break that really picks up the available swell. You’ll mainly want to look for swells from the SouthWest or West, and it can handle sizes around 3ft (about 1 meter). The left break works best with the south-east winds, while the right side can be a bit hit or miss. The waves break over dead coral, so be mindful. This spot is suitable for intermediate surfers, and you can surf during low, mid, or high tide.
Due to its remote setting, you won't find a lot of crowds, which is a plus. Just be prepared for a bit of a trek to reach Pulau Dana, as it’s fairly out of the way. Make sure to respect the environment and enjoy the less-traveled surf vibes.
