Raijua surf guide

Raijua is a remote and desolate island located between Sumba and Rote. It offers a unique surfing experience with its classic left-hand waves found on the SW tip of the island. This area is generally consistent and often goes uncrowded, making it a cool spot for surfers looking to escape the masses.

The surf here features some impressive lefts that can really crank up at lower tides. You can expect to catch fast and powerful waves, with some sections even offering barrels. The outside bombie adds a wild touch, especially during higher swells, and there's a steep, cliff-hugging wedge that can be a fun ride. The optimal swell direction is from the west, and it tends to handle swell sizes around 4ft (1.2m). If you're planning to surf here, it's best to aim for mid to low tides, and southeast winds work well to create decent conditions. Keep in mind that this spot suits intermediate surfers as the waves can get quite intense.

Since Raijua is not typically on the mainstream surf map, most of its waves are only surfed by passing charters. When the conditions align with the southwest to west swells, you can find some great rides here. Overall, it's a good idea to check the forecasts and tide charts before heading out to make the most of what Raijua has to offer.
