Punta Burica surf guide

Punta Burica is a surf spot located in a somewhat remote area, offering a unique experience for surfers looking for new waves. It features a variety of offshore reefs that produce large peaks, making it a destination for those who want to explore less crowded surf options. The area is more accessible from the Panama side, so travel isn’t too much of a hassle if you’re coming from that direction.

This spot works best with a south-west swell direction, but you can also catch waves when the swell comes from the south or north-west. It handles swell sizes around 3 feet (about 1 meter) and works over uneven reefs and some sandy areas. You can expect both left and right breaking waves, which adds to the variety you can find here. To get the most out of your session, it’s best to hit the water when the wind is coming from the north-east and during low to mid tide. Keep in mind that Punta Burica is better suited for expert surfers due to the challenging conditions.

Since Punta Burica is still largely unexplored, having access to a sturdy panga can help you reach the more hidden spots and find excellent waves off the beaten path. Make sure to prepare for a bit of adventure as you seek out the best breaks in this surf haven.
