Riviera - Malta surf guide

Riviera in Ghajn Tuffieha Bay is one of Malta’s more consistent surf spots. It’s often a go-to for surfers, especially when the conditions are right. The area is known for its nice peak break located right next to the Riviera Bar. While it can get crowded with swimmers in the summer, the winter surf season tends to clear out and offers better waves.

The surf here is pretty accessible for beginners, with manageable swell sizes that can handle around 1ft (0.3 meters) and up. The best wave directions are left and right, breaking over sand. For optimal conditions, the spot works best with a north-west swell and can also handle swell coming in from the south-west. The ideal wind comes from the southeast, and you can catch decent waves at low, mid, and high tide. There are some fun sections to whip and launch off of, especially when the swell is right.

Despite being beginner-friendly, it’s always good to keep an eye on the conditions and choose a time when the beach is less crowded. Winter is definitely the better season to hit this spot, so if you're looking for fun waves without the summer crowd, Riviera can be a solid choice.
