Surf: Sao Marcos has little to recommend it - the water is murky, unnaturally hot, heaps of tankers pass by to enter the rivermouth and there is a shark attack once every 10 years. Around the point to the west, Ponta da Areia is deeper in the rivermouth and has occasional classic days with E wind protection. Environment: More surfers likely at Ponta when it breaks, which isn't that often.
