Sea Girt surf guide

Sea Girt is a surfing spot located in New Jersey, north of Army Camp. It features a range of jetties that help control sand flow along the shore, creating various breaks that can be enjoyed by surfers. The beach itself is fairly accessible, but keep in mind that during the summer months, you’ll need a beach badge to hang out here.

The surf here can be decent, with waves breaking best on E-SE swells, and you can see it handle sizes from about 1 meter (3 ft) to 2.5 meters (8 ft). It’s generally best surfed during low to mid tide, especially for intermediate to expert surfers. The bottom is sandy, which is good for most board types like shortboards, fish, and longboards. Expect waves that break both left and right, and watch out for some rip currents and shallow spots when you’re out there.

Crowds can vary, with peak times being a bit heavy, but most days it’s manageable. The vibe here is mostly moderate, though it can get intense when the surf is good. The best winds for this spot come from the southwest to northwest, which helps to make the conditions a bit more pleasant. The surfing season typically runs from September through March, with autumn and winter offering some of the better days.
