Overview
Serangan, also known as Turtle Island, is an east-facing reef that comes alive in the wet season and has something for just about everyone. Lefts and rights peak up and pitch along a curving coral arc, ranging from softer shoulders to hollow, pitching sections. It breaks over dead coral and sits right beside a massive rock jetty, which is a strange thing to surf next to in Bali, though it has little effect on the waves as they hit the nicely oriented reef.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from south through west (S-W), with south swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, and both lefts and rights are on offer. Consistency is moderate, but it picks up plenty of swell, so there are regular windows when the setup lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest offshore wind. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Serangan suits intermediate surfers well. Expect a busy lineup when it's working, and the crowds build further when the wind swings to the west.
Access
Getting onto the island means clearing a security check first, after which a chilled-out warung scene is waiting.
