Son Bou is a 2 km long beach located on the south coast of Menorca. It's known for its consistent surf conditions, which can get pretty lively at times. The beach tends to attract a crowd, especially during the summer months when tourist traffic peaks. In winter, however, the scene is much quieter, giving surfers a chance to enjoy the waves without the hustle and bustle. On clear days, you can also enjoy some nice views of Mallorca across the water.
This spot can handle swell sizes around 2 ft. (about 0.6 meters) and is best suited for intermediate surfers. It works well with south-west swells, although those swells can be blocked by Mallorca. You’ll also find that east and south swells can come into play. The waves break over sand and offer both left and right breaks, making it a reasonably versatile spot. When it’s good, you'll notice that the waves can be fast and hollow, particularly at low, mid, and high tides, with north winds providing the best conditions.
In terms of surf experience, Son Bou can get crowded when it's firing, so you might want to arrive early to snag a good spot. Along with the fun waves, you can expect some rips, so keep an eye on the water. Overall, Son Bou is a decent choice for a surf session when in Menorca, especially when conditions are right.
