South Tybee Sandbars surf guide

Surf: General: Between Tybee and Little Tybee islands are a series of offshore sandbar breaks that offer excellent longboarding. It's sort of like Canoes at Waikiki. Paddle from the south end of the island out to the whitewater. Long, long rides on small to medium swells at low to mid-tide. Tides: low to mid Size: knee-chest high Wind: W Swell: NE, E, SE Bottom: sand Paddling: Surfing in an inlet so you are pretty much always paddling. Spot Rating: Fun little peelers for the big boards. Access: Easy access, though parking may be a problem in the summer months. Crowds: Crowd Factor: None, would you want to paddle this far out? Local Vibe: Mellow. Environment: Some runoff after heavy rains but pretty good typically Hazards: Strong currents and miscellaneous sea creatures. Season: Late summer, early fall, early spring
