More about Spanish House surfspot

On the same stretch of beach as Sebastian Inlet but far less consistent because it needs more swell to break. Short and sweet barrel when it lines up, though.

General: Earning its name from the large, Spanish-style home just steps from the break, the house is unique to this area and so is the wave it guards. Spanish House's deep outside and shallow inside bar gives the break some push, offering more of a challenge than the dribblers of Northern Brevard on most average swells. Under ideal conditions -- strong swell, low tide, offshore wind - there's a chance for rare Florida perfection, transforming the beach into a top-to-bottom barrel garden.

Because of its punch, proximity to the Inlet, extensive parking and cheap price -- free -- Spanish House suffers most of the Inlet's overflow, but usually lacks the attitude, thanks to the scattered lineup. You can always walk until you find a peak away from the Spanish House pack. If you choose such a path, you'll pass another sneaker spot called Chernobyl's where you might score a more private banzai shorebreak session. Both Spanish House and Chernobyl's remain favorite barrel opportunities during NE-E swells, which cross up the area's premier powerhouse and pressure cooker, Sebastian Inlet. Tides: Low Size: Chest-2' overhead Wind: WSW-SW Swell: ENE-E Bottom: Sand Paddling: Breaks pretty close to the beach but current moves at times. Spot Rating: This spot can fire; dependable barrels when it's on.

High performance wave, so best for the more experienced surfers.

Limited parking in the lot but can hold quite a few vehicles.

Fall-Spring, Hurricane

Crowd Factor: When it is on, it'll be packed. Local Vibe: Solid - the locals that have this place dialed, so humility and respect expected.

As soon as there is groundswell, the crowd will swell. From here south to Martin County is probably the sharkiest water in Brevard County.

Almost always beautiful water.

Lot of fish which attract sharks, but crowds cut your chances of being attacked. There have been a few bites from small sharks in the past. Occasional Tiger shark makes an appearance.
