Bonsteel Park surf guide

Bonsteel Park is located just a few miles north of Sebastian Inlet and is one of Brevard's southern beaches. It's often overlooked since it’s close to the more popular spots like Spanish House and the Inlet. While Bonsteel is primarily known as a fishing spot, it can offer some surfable waves when the conditions are right, especially at low tide.

The surf at Bonsteel Park can handle swell sizes ranging from 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) to 8 feet (about 2.4 meters). The best direction for the swell is generally from the East to Northeast, although North and East swells can also work. The waves are mostly beach breaks, allowing for both right and left rides, which can be fun for beginners and intermediates alike. When the surf gets bigger, paddling out can be a bit challenging, so keep that in mind. For the best experience, aim for low tide and watch for preferable winds coming from the South to West.

Access to the park is easy with a public parking lot, and the crowd factor is usually low, making for a mellow local vibe. Keep an eye out for shoreline fishers and the occasional shark, as those hazards can be present. The environment is generally clean, making it a decent spot to hang at, especially during the surf season from fall through spring and during hurricane swells.
