T-Land is a well-known surf spot located near Nemberala Beach on Rote Island. It’s often less crowded than some other more famous spots, making it a bit more relaxed for surfers looking to enjoy some waves. The local name, Besialu, means crowbar, reflecting the vibe of the area. With its consistent surf, it’s a place many surfers look to for a good session.
The wave at T-Land is a reliable left that has four sections which can connect for rides over 300 meters. It works best with a low tide, but it can still offer decent waves during mid and high tides. The swell usually comes from the SouthWest or West and can be surfed with sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters). When the swell is bigger, around head high or more, you can expect some heavy barrels and speed walls, especially in the double to triple overhead range. The waves break over dead coral, so make sure you're comfortable with reef breaks. Conditions are generally best with an east wind, which helps to clean up the wave.
Another great thing about T-Land is that it has options for various skill levels. Beginners can find some gentler waves closer to the harbour area, while the more experienced surfers can challenge themselves with the heavier sections. The crowds can get a bit big on good days, but the long walk and paddle out, along with the layout of the spot, help to spread surfers out. Overall, it’s a good option on Rote Island for a day in the water.
