More about The Cove surfspot

General: Located at the southern end of Kalama Park and in front of Cove Park, The Cove’s slow rolling waves make it one of the best places to learn to surf in Maui. Usually small, crowded and filled with surf schools, however The Cove can turn on during larger SW summer swells. Tides: Medium Size: Waist high-overhead Wind: Calm or offshore from NNE to ESE, with NE straight offshore. Swell: Well exposed to S and SW, which are most common, heavily shadowed on SSW swells. The much more rare, larger wintertime WNW swells that slip under Kauai/Ni'ihau can also get in. Bottom: Reef Paddling: Not bad. Spot Rating: Usually a mellow and user friendly wave, but gets good when a solid swell is running.

All levels, but depends on size.

Easy. Access anywhere from Kalama Beach Park or Cove Beach Park.

Potential for swell to show all year, but best and much more consistent through summer with swells from the S to SW. The more rare, larger wintertime WNW swells that slip under Kauai/Ni'ihau.

Crowd Factor: Usually moderate, depending on quality of surf and day of week, hit or miss. Local Vibe: Usually on the mellow side. Be cool and keep it that way.

Pristine.

Reef.
