Twin Piers surf guide

Twin Piers, located in Bradenton, is a go-to spot for surfers looking for some decent waves. Despite the name, there are actually three piers here, which can be useful to remember as you head down the beach road. This area, like many spots in Southwest Florida, works best when the tide is on the rise. A nice day to check it out is when there's a north wind and high tide. If it gets too crowded, just scout around to the north or south, as there’s often space to catch a wave.

You can expect to find wave sizes ranging from about 1.2 meters (4 feet) to 2.4 meters (8 feet). The best waves usually break between the center and northernmost pier, and on the north side of that northern pier. Twin Piers picks up a variety of swell directions, including NorthWest and SouthEast, so there’s always potential for a good session. The waves break over sand and can provide both left and right rides, making it suitable for surfers of different skill levels, from beginners to experts. For optimal conditions, look for north to east winds, and aim for mid to high tide to really get the most out of the spot.

Access to Twin Piers is pretty straightforward, with parking available right by the beach. It does attract quite a crowd, especially since many folks drive in from across the Champa Bay area to catch a wave. The vibe among local surfers is generally chill, so it’s a friendly atmosphere, even when it gets busy. Just keep in mind that there is a standard selection of ocean life like sharks, rays, and jellies around.
