Virac Harbour is a surf spot located on the eastern side of the island, known for its unique vibe and laid-back atmosphere. It’s not the most popular surfing destination, but it's perfect for those looking to avoid the crowds. The local surf scene consists of a small number of surfers, making it easy to get a wave without too much hassle. Plus, being on an island means there are more spots to explore nearby if you're up for an adventure.
The wave here breaks primarily to the left over live coral and works best with an east swell, but it can also handle swells coming from the north. It’s great for intermediate surfers, especially when the swell size is around 2 feet (0.6 meters) or bigger. The preferable wind direction is from the northwest, and the best time to catch the waves is during high tide. On those bigger days, there's definitely potential for some fun moves, and you'll find the conditions more favorable.
Besides surfing, if you're up for some exploration, consider renting a boat in Virac to check out other nearby surf spots. You might find some fun lefts and rights further down the coast, especially near Twin Rocks, which is just an hour south. The island has plenty of surfing to offer beyond what you see at the harbor, so don’t hesitate to discover more!
